What’s the difference between a regular digital camera and a dslr camera?

:D asked:

I was wondering if I should invent in a dslr camera?
my regular digital camera is good, but the images don’t come out as clear and high quality as i’d like. also the colors never look about right.

i mainly use the camera to photograph myself for my clothing line.
i also use it for things such as football games at my school and regular events.
sometimes i do shoots with others, just to experiment.

should i invest in a dslr camera?

Actually there are several major differences between SLR’s and the compacts.

Quality of photos is one, quality of build is another. Then there’s longevity, inter changeable lenses, full control and the list goes on.

You choose which to use only remember there isn’t a compact made that can stand up to the lowest level SLR.

DSLRs have much larger digital sensors that deliver image quality because they have much larger pixels. Not more pixels just bigger ones.

Also the lenses are much better.

When they were first introduced, digital SLR cameras were enormously expensive and a tool for professionals only. Since then, they have come down in price into the consumer price range. Because of this, many people buy digital SLRs without understanding how they work — and, consequently, not making the most of them. This article will guide you through the most common functions they have, and show you how to learn to use one by experiment. The principles herein are the same for any camera, but you will probably not be able to set your shutter and aperture manually on most non-SLR cameras. Read on nonetheless.
